Immense cost reductions in the marking of marine gears
The user
is a well-known manufacturer throughout the world of high-quality marine gears produced at two locations in Germany.
Ausgangssituation
Marine gear sub-assemblies have to be marked distinctly. Expensive, riveted labels were used till 2004.
This uneconomic procedure should be replaced by a self-adhesive alternative that would stick just as well on structured cast substrates as it would on bright steel.
At the same time the labels would have to be resistant to sea air, acids and grease. The adhesive was not to be penetrated under any circumstances with the resultant detachment of the marking, even when in constant contact with gear oil.
Solution from ELTEX
After extensive testing of several products, the ELTEX TOP PROTECT 2 in 1 system with a special adhesive proved convincing with outstanding test results.
The economical aspect of the ELTEX solution is also quite impressive: some EUR 20,000 could be saved in the very first year for the marking of the sub-assemblies since with the self-adhesive foils there is no need for any engraving, drawing, drilling, riveting or de-burring operations for the metal labels.
In the case of the sophisticated ELTEX TOP PROTECT 2 in 1 system, printable foil labels and transparent surface protection are placed next to each other on the carrier. The transparent and exactly-fitting laminate section is simply folded on to the foil labels and pressed on after being individually printed in a thermal transfer print process.
The print image is permanently protected against external influences. In this respect the printable foil, laminate and adhesive are exactly harmonised to suit the respective application.
