Application:
Cost reduction in PCB component insertion process
The user
is an internationally well-known manufacturer of household appliance technology. The product portfolio comprises washing machines, dryers and dishwashers of the very highest quality.
Initial situation
Electronic controls were developed and manufactured by the user itself. The purchasing group responsible for this material cluster became strategically important. Therefore, the expensive laminated Kapton labels for marking PCBs should be replaced by a less costly alternative.
Solution from ELTEX
The latest innovation in the ELTEX TOP CODE range convinces on account of its very high quality and low price. The material, specially made for this application, is extremely resistant to high temperatures up to 300°C as well as to aggressive media during the SMD insertion process.
The labels in the TOP CODE range are printed by ELTEX in series with the code 39. In this context a special foil surface ensures the very best barcode quality, a quality that is tested in accordance with EN 1635 and ANSI X3.182-1990 and documented.
Any repetition of a serial number that has already been printed can be excluded due to an inventive quality and checking system with extensive control mechanisms. The distinct traceability of every PCB is thus ensured.
The main benefits:
- Immense cost savings thanks to new label material from ELTEX
- Special surface ensures the very best barcode quality as per EN 1635 and ANSI X.3182-1990
- Optimal process reliability on pick-and-place equipment with Hoover Davis Label Presenter thanks to special transparent cores with a double-sided flange

Additional benefit
These ELTEX TOP CODE labels are automatically dispensed on to the PCB during the component insertion process. Each roll of labels is put up on stable plastic reels with a flange that is transparent from both sides for optimal process reliability on SMD pick-and-place equipment with Hoover Davis Label Presenter.
Mini labels
The development of ever-smaller electronic components has resulted in a smaller surface area for marking. ELTEX manufactures labels from the TOP CODE range with a data-matrix-code and numbering system in a dimension of
6 x 6 mm.
