The user

is a manufacturer of vacuum cleaners and kitchen appliances that produces both in Europe as well as Asia. It markets its products using a direct sales approach.

Initial Situation

Type plates were embossed into the housing of the vacuum cleaner foot section until 2005; the type plates being a constituent part of the plastic tooling. The disadvantage was that this method allowed no variable data to be incorporated and thus provided no information about the date of manufacture, production line etc.

A type plate was needed for a new product series that could be imprinted individually and which could be attached at favourable cost on the production line. Moreover, it was of great importance that all components and spare parts for the print system were available throughout the world since an identical manufacturing process was going to be implemented in the new, Asian production locations.

At the same time a packing label was required that could withstand trouble-free a see passage lasting several weeks at a relative humidity of up to 90%.

Solution from ELTEX

After comprehensive tests, the type plate printing system from ELTEX TOP SCRIPT range proved to be the clear winner of the invitation for tenders.

In competition with products from other manufacturers, the solution offered by ELTEX was not only convincing on account of the best label price but also because of the high quality.

The self-adhesive, silver type plate is imprinted in a thermal transfer printing process and is extremely resistant to aggressive media. It is resistant to all cleaning agents normally used in households: water, spirits, scouring rubs and powders, aerosol cleaners, cleaning benzene and manual cleaners. The inscription is even perfectly legible after cleaning with a steel wire brush.

ELTEX, as a system supplier, does not only provide the printing media but also the entire imprinting systems with thermal transfer printers, customer-specific software and barcode scanners, components which have been integrated into the manufacturing process.

The type plate for the already assembled vacuum cleaner is printed on every production line with type plate data and a barcode. This barcode (with corresponding data) is scanned in a subsequent working step and a matching packing label with the same data content is generated.

The packing label is printed on a second thermal transfer printer located at the end of the manufacturing line and is attached to the packing for the corresponding vacuum cleaner.

Not only can the model data be documented in this way but also the date of manufacture and serial No. of the appliance, and this without the packaging having to be opened. In the meantime the system is already in use at foreign manufacturing facilities.
