Initial Situation

Products are frequently marked prior to the coating process in industrial manufacturing. In this way parts and components can be allocated at all times to customers or orders during manufacturing. The status of the order can, therefore, always be traced.

Barcode labels or self-adhesive type plates out of foil are used in most companies for the marking of products. During coating, they are covered with adhesive tape or a transparent, detachable shield. Often, problems ensue under real application conditions because the covering foil is not correctly adapted to suit the application-specific environment.

For example, the coverings simply fall off during coating or paint seeps in at the edges. They shrink on account of high temperatures – the image is then no longer protected and is also coated. Or the adhesive is so strong that the covering shield is no longer detachable after the coating process.
