Application:
Marking of torsion springs
The user
is a leading manufacturer of springs and formed wire parts in Europe. The product range includes, among others, compression, tension, spiral and torsion springs as well as spring components and subassemblies.
Initial situaiton
Previously, the torsion springs were marked with numbered metal signs which were attached flat on the spring by means of
metal clips, a process which involved a lot of effort and was time consuming. One great disadvantage was that it was impossible to have an individual imprint – the printing of variable manufacturing data and barcodes inconceivable. Further, it was only possible to track and trace back a particular batch with great difficulty.
Against the background of warranty and product liability considerations, it was necessary to have a label that would clearly identify the springs throughout their entire service life from manufacture, incl. storage and dispatch.
Solution from ELTEX
ELTEX presented an optimum solution with its self-adhesive, marking ensign TOP TAG. The white tag is imprinted in a thermal transfer print process with production data and batch numbers, information that is encrypted in the barcode. Subsequently, it is simply laid to one half on a winding of the spring, the backing paper is removed from
the self-adhesive protective surface and is then folded on to the imprinted label. The label is firmly connected to the spring at the desired point thanks to an adhesive layer which prevents it from moving off-centre. The surface shield also offers permanent protection against any environmental influences.
The label offers a complete retracing process in practical applications. The torsion springs are labelled directly after manufacture with the label protruding somewhat from the spring.
The barcode is scanned before dispatch and allocated automatically to the order. The final customer likewise scans the barcode when the goods are received. This means that a distinct identification is ensured.

Additional advantage
The imprint remains on the product even after the fitting of the springs into factory gates or garage doors. In this way it is even possible after years to trace the manufacturer as well as the batch and manufacturing data.
