Initial situation
The product marking used to be done with aluminium signs which were manufactured in a needle-stamping process and riveted to the hydraulic part. The disadvantage of this method was that the characters were not exactly stamped and were difficult to read. Moreover, the stamping and subsequent riveting of the signs was time-consuming.
Marking was carried out during the production and before painting process. The type plates were therefore shielded individually with detachable strips of adhesive tape so that they could still be read after coating.
Solution from ELTEX
A cost-benefit comparison between the needle-stamping process and the sign print system, ELTEX 7500, shows clearly that self-adhesive type plates are the more economic and, at the same time, qualitatively better method of marking.
On account of the high quantities involved, a polyester foil is imprinted in a thermal transfer printing process, subsequently laminated in the ELTEX 7500 label printing system and then precisely stamped out in the desired format.
The silver foil bonds perfectly on all substrates, even on oily components with hydraulic oil residues.
The firmly-attached surface shielding – a self-adhesive, transparent foil – protects the print image permanently against abrasion from aggressive media and is additionally provided with a removable paint protection laminate. This is simply removed after coating. The print image on the type plate can then be read perfectly.
The main benefits:
- Cost savings from the use of self-adhesive type plates
- Reduced number of working cycles in the production area: the drilling of borings, riveting of the type plates as well as the covering of the type plates before coating are unnecessary
- Special adhesive ensures secure bonding to diverse substrates and even on hydraulic oil
- Great print flexibility: logos for customer-specific type plates can be quickly and simply made in a thermal transfer printing process with high border contrast and a permanently readable print image
