Industry:
Rubber, Plastics
Application:
Marking of substrates containing parting agents
The user
is a leading company worldwide in the electronics and electrical engineering sectors. The company, founded more than 150 years ago, is operative in the communication, automation and energy segments among others.
Initial situation
In the past the marking of high-voltage insulators was implemented in a manual engraving process after the casting cycle. This costly method was to be replaced by a rational system of self-adhesive, barcode labels from ELTEX.
Solution from ELTEX
Silicone-treated substrates, resinous or waxy substrates do not allow a bonding with standard adhesives.
ELTEX therefore developed a material structure where a printable, heat-resistant foil was equipped with a special adhesive.
The unprinted labels of the ELTEX TOP-SCRIPT range are printed locally in a thermal transfer printing process with the code 128B and then attached to the cast parts that are heated to a temperature of some 160° Celsius. The affects of temperature activate the adhesive. The high final adhesive strength is then achieved after the subsequent sinter process.
In this way secure adhesion even on circular or bent substrates containing parting agents is ensured. Together with a high-quality thermal transfer ribbon, the weather-resistant foil enables the labels to be deployed outdoors for many years.
The main benefits:
- Reduction of the process costs with self-adhesive barcode labels
- Permanent adhesion to silicone-treated, waxy or resinous substrates
- Unmistakeable traceability against the background of product liability
