Factory plates in accordance with 76/114/EEC

Within the framework of EC type licensing in accordance with the EC specification 70/156/EEC, all vehicles subject to the EC specification 76/114/EEC must be equipped with a factory plate. This means that the type license may only be given when the factory sign is plainly readable for the vehicle’s entire life span and contains non-removable descriptions.

KBA Notice No. 412-205 “Factory sign”

Due to the fact that the wording of the standard 76/114/EC does not contain any specific requirements for factory-sign materials, the German Federal Office for Motor Vehicles has released the code of practice “Factory Signs No. 412-205”, which specifies which requirements a factory sign must fulfil.

More than 30 certificates for factory signs issued from accredited offices offer conclusive proof of ELTEX’s know-how.

The factory signs based on the TOP PROTECT 2 in 1 Principle are imprinted individually using the thermal-transfer method with barcodes, numbering and variable product data and remain readable for life. The ELTEX TOP PROTECT OFFICE version is printed in German sheet-of-paper format DIN A4 by a laser printer and then provided with transparent, film protection.

ELTEX TOP PROTECT labels are totally resistant against petrol, diesel, motor oil, water, sodium bicarbonate solution, sulphuric acid and commercial toluene. Their resistance to temperatures from -40° to +100° Celsius was proven in tests. Plates of the TOP PROTECT series are in addition weather-resistant and abrasive-proof and have good resistance to high-pressure cleaning.

By the use of tamper-proof films, ELTEX TOP PROTECT is guaranteed forgery-proof. An attempt to remove the film plate results in the mark “Void” remaining on the subsurface as a certain indication of manipulation.

The Federal Office for Motor Traffic has confirmed ELTEX that the pressure sensitive labels of TOP PROTECT and TOP PROTECT OFFICE fulfil all the requirements listed in the official notice and are therefore suitable in accordance with §59 StVZO (Traffic Sign Code) for marking motor vehicles, trailers, superstructures and components requiring markings by law.
